We always get so much inspiration from checking in on our favorite designers’ newest work — and any Design Shop Interiors project is a perfect example of this! As part of our group of 2018 My Rowe Designers, designers Leyla Jaworski and Whitney Rose (take a peek at Leyla and Whitney’s Fall 2018 My Rowe Design inspiration) always seem to know how to maximize the versatility of the thousands of custom options available from Rowe & Robin Bruce, blending them effortlessly with their signature bright, fresh style. We’re excited to share this recent project reveal by Whitney Rose, which utilizes Rowe selections throughout the home. Material Girl

Whitney’s inspiration often stems from the materials she envisions using in a space. “A gorgeous piece of tile, a slubby linen or a vintage textile always spark my creativity,” she says, “and I love linen and reclaimed materials like old wood, brick and terra-cotta.” Whitney never loses sight of the real people that will inhabit a home–their wants, needs and preferences are all crucial to the way the space develops. Ultimately, comfort (without sacrificing beauty, of course) is a huge priority. “I like sofas to look relaxed and love using washable fabrics that allow families to really live in their spaces,” says the designer.

On Her Design Style

I would say that my design style is California casual. I obviously want the room to look pretty and pulled together, but I never want it to feel stuffy or like you can’t touch anything.

Pro-Tips! The Designer’s Process

Whitney’s creative process often begins by asking the client how they envision using the space, and how it should function for them and their family. “From there,” she adds, “I focus on the flow of the furniture in the room and how I think everything needs to be laid out.” Only then does she move on to textiles and accessories, layering them on to complement & finish the space.

All of Whitney’s design projects begin with three essential goals:

  • Who & how
  • Focus on flow
  • Layer in the textures

Keeping the client in mind is always top priority for Whitney…and it’s especially fun when the goal changes in a positive way! “This was a really fun project,” says the designer. “Not only were the clients lovely people, but they found out towards the beginning of the process that they were expecting.” The clients placed great trust in Design Shop Interiors’ innate grasp of their personal style, and Whitney had fun designing a cozy home for their growing family. “My favorite projects are the ones where there is a lot of trust,” says Whitney. “They always turn out the best, and this project was a great example of that!”

Family Room Design

Project Spotlight: Family Room

The home’s cozy family room is not a large space, but is bathed in gorgeous sunlight from a number of large windows. Whitney chose to accentuate its natural brightness with a fresh palette of whites and pale neutrals. The room maximizes its seating potential with a few well-placed pieces from Rowe & Robin Bruce, including a large sectional that anchors the space and a few chairs that define its style. “I love the look and the function of the Bristol Sectional Sofa in the family room. It’s so comfortable for lounging because of the 46″ depth, and it looks so beautiful with the rolled arms and pretty neutral fabric.” The Lindsay Swivel Chairs were another of Whitney’s favorites, combining a bit of traditional style with functional yet beautiful lines. Finally, she selected the Thatcher Chair to finish the space with a hint of floral grace. “The wood detail on the back was perfect for a chair that was going to be floating in the room,” she says, “and I love that it’s pretty from all angles. The floral linen fabric was beautiful and an unexpected pattern [for this space].”

Pro-Tip! Why Whitney Chooses Rowe

“At Design Shop Interiors, we love using Rowe in our projects because of the many styles and fabrics to choose from. There is something to suit everyone, and there are so many options to customize. The Kid Proof and washable fabrics are pretty yet practical, and offer a beautiful solution to busy families dealing with pets, kids’ sports, and dirty feet on the furniture.”
